Fervently Working Part II

September 13, 2010

Its been a busy summer. I got to meet a lot of great people and make some awesome new friends.

I was lucky enough to visit a whole bunch of countries I had previously never been to, so for that I want to thank all the kids out there who bought tickets to our shows and helped keep the Gallows monster alive. Thank YOU!

I have been back in Brooklyn for two weeks now and it feels great. Been riding my bike a lot and spending a lot of hours in the studio working on some new paintings for a group show next month. Click here to see the flyer for the show!

The opening reception is October 7th and it would be amazing to see some friends there, so if you happen to be in the SF area consider this your invitation! Come out and help me celebrate and buy a painting from me!

Anybody that has met me will know how much of my life revolves around Art and I am stoked that Angela asked me to be a part of the show, the line-up is great and I cant wait to see my work hanging on the wall amongst all the other great artists taking part, so Thank You Angela! Now all I have to do is get the fucking paintings finished in time…

I have actually taken a sabbatical from Modern Warfare 2 in order to make sure I get the paintings finished and if im honest I havent missed it as much as I thought I would.. too many modding/glitching/cheating noobs on that fucking game anyways. When Black Ops comes out lets hope its a different story..

Anyways.. here are some new photographs from my Summer. Enjoy!

Where greebos go to die.

and heres a couple from my trip to Japan earlier in the year…

some beautiful girl on the subway.

and a handful of colour shots..

There will be a colour photo update soon and Im going to add some of my favourite portrait photos to the Photography page and I will be filling up the Modern Electric Tattooing page soon as well so make sure you visit again or you can subscribe and get updated every time I post something new thats worth looking at!

Tomorrow I am going to get Tattooed for the first time in way too long. Steve Boltz at SMITH STREET TATTOO PARLOR is doing it and I am real stoked on it. Also their Tattoo Shop is one of my favourites ever so go check out the links to their site and get an education in good tattooing!

Thats it for now. Let me know what you think and dont forget about the exhibition in San Francisco next month!

Fervently Working Part I

September 13, 2010

I have been busier over the past five months than ever before. Especially since I got back to Brooklyn.

I spent all summer on tour with the boys playing festivals and club shows all over Europe, and when I wasnt climbing the human pyramid I was Tattooing at one of my favourite Ink & Blood shops… Frith Street Tattoo Parlor.

I wanted to update this blog more than I did over the summer but I broke my digital camera and so instead I was a little more selective and just used my film camera.

I got all the pictures back last week and have been going through them trying to pick a few good selections to put up here.  Im in the studio now and will be painting for a few hours, then ill start uploading so please spread the word!

And while you are at it check out some of my friends blogs.. I only link the raddest artists whose work I truly admire and I promise you will find something new and interesting at each blog.

Thanks

Peace & Love

July 2, 2010

Is the name of the Festival we are playing today. Yesterday I stood around in the hazy late evening light and watched Biffy Clyro, The Cribs, Meshuggah and Entombed all tear Sweden up.

Today we have the same opportunity, only we get to do it at 2pm.

Tomorrow we play Roskilde in Denmark. and we are on at 2am.

I dont know how or why life happens like this but it does. And recently I have figured out its best to just let it.

So onwards I go,

once more into the fray.

Hoping,

I wont lose any teeth today.

Stay out of trouble Boys & Girls.

Sweden

July 1, 2010

Just got to Sweden after a 9 hour drive from Norway this morning. It was a beautiful drive, but there were definitely some parts where im sure we all felt like we were about to star in the next human centipede movie.

I have seen so many trees and lakes that I feel like I am trapped in a postcard.

Anyways, we made it and we are all starving so we are gonna go eat and then watch some great bands.

Heard it was raining at home …

Valhalla Rising

June 30, 2010

After I ate an awesome breakfast I went for a walk to get some toothpast and then the boys went back to the hotel. I decided to go check out a church and it was really amazing.  The light here is incredible, im going to go back with the film camera and take some shots of the fella up on the cross.

This painting below is about 30 feet high. Its amazing.

Checke out a grocery store and upstairs they had this rad little tea shop.

Then we hit the boat to take a cruise and “go fishing”.  Most of the boys stayed at the hotel so Jonny, Steph and I had the boat to ourselves along with our driver.

We went fishing for mackerel with some small lines and all I managed to catch was some Jellyfish tentacles. They were tangled on the line and I guess I hadn’t noticed as I was reeling it in and it ended up wrapped around my wrist.

I think were going to head back out later when the sun is down a little, there is a second boat coming later so were gonna get some rods, bait and some drinks and enjoy the early evening fishing. I think I can afford to miss Florence and her machine to try and catch my own dinner.

Apparently you can rent out the lighthouses for a week at a time. I think one day Im going to bring some friends and have a really chilled holiday on an island here in Norway.

Straight Vans reppin nowadays.

So right now im in the hotel sunburnt as fuck and im about to go jump back in the boat to go to the show!  Hope everyone is having as much fun today as I am…

Part Two.

June 29, 2010

This is how I wish every day was.

We went to the Hotel and Jonny and I went for a walk. We turned a corner in the hotel to see this creepy little girl at the end of the corridor staring at us.  Turns out she was a statue. Who puts that in a hotel like its a good idea?

This is not our hotel although I almost wish it was..

The catering hall at the festival is kinda outta control. This is the main light fixture..

and the end wall is a huge climbing wall.

All these things make me love Norway that little bit extra. and then they go and get you one of these…

A chocolate caramel smouth?! Its pretty awesome and im glad its inside me.

We hung out all day with the fellas from Alexisonfire.  Sat on the “Private Beach”.

It was just a good day, and a really nice way to start my Norwegian adventure. We are only here for a day or two more and then were off to Sweden.

So here are some photos from today..

There are a few activities you can do as part of the festival. One of them is to go fishing and cook whatever you eat.

I have been vegetarian for almost 2 years now, but tomorrow I am going to go fishing. If i catch something, im going to kill it, prepare it, cook it and then eat it. Hunter Gatherers Unite.

All these photos were taken on my iPhone. My digital olympus is an old wreck so im going to pick up a new one. but no time soon. As for now youll have to do with these and be safe in the knowledge that the film camera is back in hand and being used religiously.

Welcome to Norway

June 29, 2010

Saw this as I left my house at 5am this morning.

Saw this as we flew into Norway this morning.

I have been less digital and more analogue this year. I have around 25 undeveloped rolls of film at my house. Once I have the courage to let someone develop them I will start the slow process of putting them up here for the world.

As for now, Ill be uploading some iphone photos of our 2010 European Tour which started Today!

One love.

Birdwatching

May 3, 2010

I have always had a fascination with birds. When I was living with my Dad in Slough I helped him catch a runaway Indian Ringneck Parrot. Its name was George. He lived a great life with us for almost 2 years before he caught a cold and got really sick. He would sit on my chest and drink tea. He eventually started speaking too. One week while my dad was on holiday my brothers came and helped me run the store. We put a TV under the counter and hooked up the PS2 to play Tiger Woods. By the time that week was over George was fairly fluent in the phrase “Fuck You”.

I miss that stupid bird.

While I was painting in my studio recently I noticed that my garden was full of them. Finches, wood pigeons, even some cardinals every now and then. So I figured I would buy a bird-feeder and see I could get them up on the fire escape to hang out while I spent my time painting.

It worked… and let me tell you. They were hungry little fuckers.

AND THEN…..

Then it all went wrong, and this guy decided to come crash the party.

He tore the bird feeder apart.  When we first moved into the apartment, I was making some lunch one day and had left both the windows open in my studio. I finished cooking and turned from the kitchen to find a squirrel in my apartment. He had come in from the fire escape probably for a slice of my pizza. I figure this is probably the same guy as he knew his way around pretty good and was not the little bit scared of me.

So I had to move the bird feeder and hung it under the fire escape. Unfortunately it means I dont get to see the birds as often, but at least they are eating.. and MAN are they fucking eating. I picked up a big bag of deluxe food from Petland down the street and the birds have gone through the whole feeder twice.

I am not a rock star. I am a bird watcher.

New Portfolio

May 1, 2010

Ok. So most people that know me will know that I havent had a Tattoo portfolio for at least 4 years. Maybe longer than that even. There are myriad reasons why I havent had one but to be honest its always bummed me out.

So by now most of you will know that I am returning to Britain’s fair shores for the entire summer. Gallows will be playing all sorts of festivals in countries all across Europe. I’m very excited about it as I have a new found interest in traveling and am looking forward to documenting my summer in the medium of 35mm Black & White film!

What this also means, my dear friends and potential clients, is that I will also be in the UK for the downtime between tours. This has enabled me with the help of my very good friend and early mentor Dante Di Massa to go back to work at Frith Street Tattoo Parlor in Soho.  I will be there at different times over the summer usually for two or three weeks while Gallows are in purgatory waiting to go back on the road!

So I decided to make a new portfolio for my time at Frith Street. This is not your typical Tattoo Portfolio.. by that I mean.. there are no photographs of Tattoos in there!

The new Portfolio is a collection of small paintings I have made which would all make great Tattoos. Each painting is mounted on thick card with its own banging tape job!

The other difference from this portfolio and most others… All these paintings are for sale. I will also be making more while I am in the UK and as one painting goes I will replace it with a new one!

Ok enough bullshit. I hope you enjoyed the photos.

Come down to:

FRITH STREET TATTOO PARLOR

MAY 17TH – 26TH

To hang out with me and get a sweet Tattoo or pick up a radical painting from me.

Thanks for listening. Hope you enjoy.

This blog WILL be getting regular love from me this summer. I promised myself!
